We currently teach pupils from 28 different schools on approx. 50 different
courses. A list of the courses involved includes GNVQ Land and Environment,
GNVQ Engineering, GCSE Rural Science and Agriculture, AQA Unit award
scheme in the following areas – Agriculture/horticulture, Engineering
and Construction, finally GNVQ Leisure and Tourism. The emphasis is
on practical skills with the supporting theory. The facilities on offer
are the Croft (a mini-farm), the college pig unit, the college dairy,
the commercial horticulture unit, the amenity horticulture unit, the
engineering workshops, and the estates workshops. We take local schools
pupils for one week’s work experience in various departments.
We organise primary school visits and take farm animals out to schools
to give primary school children a taste of the rural environment and
farming.
