Harrogate Borough Council is committed to sustainable development through its Local Agenda 21 process in which the Council  continuously improves its services, policies and practices to contribute to a better quality of life for everyone now, and for future generations. Harrogate Local Agenda 21 explores environmental problems and possible solutions by addressing energy matters, waste and recycling, water conservation, the local surroundings, transport and getting the message across.

Current projects include the development of case study material, displays, teaching resources, and events for Schools in the Harrogate area on environmental issues with an emphasis on sustainable energy solutions.
